Sydney has moved up to the intermediate dive program now. So she has the basics down and is learning more advanced dives. Its only once a week so its not super intensive, yet. She is really enjoying it and was excited when she was invited to participate in a dive meeting this past weekend. There is a traveling dive team and they were having a home meet. So they invited some of the students to get a taste.
Sydney had 5 dives to do. The kids basically line up. A guy calls out their name and the dive. Up on the board. Splash in. Next. It actually moved pretty quickly. I was not quite sure how to capture such an event so I went for some rapid fire shots so we could see the action in slow-mo. I thought it would be cool for Sydney to review so she can see what her dives looked like at a point in time.
I don’t know much about diving to be honest. I grew up on the other side of the pool with my head in the water going back and forth. Sydney seemed pleased with her dives and enjoyed the competition. When it was over, they gathered everybody and gave our scores and ribbons based on totals. You have your dive score multiplied by your degree of difficulty. Then you have different age categories. Syd was in 10 and 11 year olds so she was on the younger side of that.
She ended up with 5th place which she was ecstatic about! Waving her ribbon around for hours afterward. And frankly, the scores were not separated by too many points all the way to first. She is sort of in the game but definitely has stuff she can work on. I guess the key is that she had fun!
Here are some shots of dives. Frankly, I am not even sure of the names of all of these.
Great job, Sydney!
