School Recital
As school nears an end for the year we are constantly busy with different year end events. Today would be the spring music recital. Last year we were surprised to find out at the actual recital that Sydney and her friend were singing a duet. This year the duet was out but Sydney still wanted to perform. It took a little convincing that you can do something by yourself. But, once she believed us it was on. Here is Sydney singing her first ever solo. The song of choice this time was “Be Thou My Vision” She picked her favorite song from the school hymn book all on her own. Great choice!

Easter 2011
It’s Easter time once again. This year we decided to play it low key and stay home. We had a busy weekend planned with it also being Reagan’s birthday. On Saturday we hit our two local egg hunts once again. As always is was cold but that didn’t stop our hunters.
Of course we also colored Easter Eggs. The two big girls seemed as though they were growing tired of this craft so I see colored eggs coming to a close for these two. A sad day.
Sunday morning the girls awoke to find their Easter baskets filled with goodies. Sydney, our early riser, admitted to waking up in the middle of the night to search the entire house for filled baskets. By the time her sisters woke up she was ready to show them where all the surprises were hidden. The big score for Sydney this year was tied between some flip flops and a bike basket.
The weather man predicted snow this morning so the Easter Bunny opted to hide his eggs all over the house. So the kids searched all three floors for hidden bunny surprises. As always the egg hunt was the best part of the day.

Mount Sanitas
We are starting to get a few glimpses into warmer weather. So Dad thought this was a great opportunity to take his girls for a hike in Boulder. The choice for today would be Mommys’ nemesis, Mount Sanitas. We enjoyed the initial part of the climb playing with all the puppies. There were too many to count. Their owners would stop and let us play with their dog while they expressed constant concern over the fact that our dog looked like he was about to die. Poor Mr. Wyatt hung in there all day but he is definitely showing his age.
Here you can see the girls tackling part of the reasoning for the nemesis title. When you have a bad knee millions of vertical odd shaped steps do not make for a comfortable day.
We kept motoring on and the kids even made time to pose with the scenery.
As we were nearing the top we came across a large rock formation. Kayla was now demanding to use her own legs so we unloaded and took a short break. The big kids took this opportunity to do some rock climbing.
Upon further exploration the girls also found an eagle painted on the rock wall. They determined that this must be the drawings of an ancient indian civilization.
We posed for one more shot and continued onward and upward.
Soon we reached the summit. We stopped long enough for Sydney to do her business in the nearby woods and then continued on.
On the way down the kiddos were beginning to tire down. Sydney was having fun passing the time with small trail runs. She took one mis-step and fell down scrapping her knees. She was not alone, Dad also tumbled a couple times and banged up his arm. Still a fun family adventure. Yet, Mount Sanitas remains a nemesis in Mom’s book! Until next time.

Aquarium Field Trip
Today was the much anticipated Aquarium Field Trip for Sydney’s Second Grade class. I once again had the privilege of escorting Sydney and her friend Madison down for the day. I forgot to grab my camera but I at least had my iphone along to document what I had to deal with all day.
At the end of the tour we came across some new sea life to our aquarium. They even posed for pictures. We were also reunited with our pal Olivia for the photo. I present to you the complete Weirdo Club with their fair mermaid friends.

AHG Service Projects
Today our American Heritage Girls Troop was heading to a local nursing home for our latest service project. We started off at the home of one of our girls where we all made cookies for the residents. The girls took turns rolling the dough into balls to fill our baking trays.
Once the cookies were in hand we all caravan’d over to the home. The residents were all waiting in the meeting room for us. The girls walked around introducing themselves to the residents while passing out cookies and drinks. Next, we headed over to the tables to play BINGO together. Sydney had three partners today. All partners were pro BiNGO players so Sydney was in great hands.
Pete was her favorite resident of the day. He was very soft spoken but loved his new partnership. Happy to say the girls all ended this experience with a big thumbs up. I was nervous they might get bored or shy with the residents. But, they all want to go back again soon.

Bike Pacer
I took Sydney with me tonight on my run. She rode her bike. She did well. Wasn’t quite sure if she could make 7 miles at pace with me. A little tough on the hills where I helped push her along. Otherwise, it was a good shake out run and bonding time.
We went 7.08 miles with an elevation gain of 154 feet in 00:54:41, which is an average pace of 07:43. View our GPS data on Garmin Connect.

Science Fair
It was that time of year for the annual school Science Fair. This is an optional activity for the kids and we have never had the push to get one done before. But, this year Sydney can read the school flyers posted everywhere and demanded that she be able to do an experiment. What to do? I bought her an experiment book which she read over and found an experiment which caught her eye. At this grade level the experiments are not judged and everyone gets a participation certificate. Next year, the judging begins. We’ll let Syd explain her project to you herself.

Spring Break 2011
Today is the last day of our Spring Break. Usually we can be found playing on a beach somewhere warm but this year we decided to stay home and spend a few days at the cabin. Anything to do with the cabin is fun for the girls so while they talked about Mexico a lot, I know they enjoyed themselves. In the rush of getting out of the house I forgot to grab the camera. So no new pics but here are a few random shots of our very own Winter Wonderland taken over the last few months.
We weren’t sure what to expect weather wise for this trip given that it was almost April. We knew there would still be lots of snow up in Leadville, but what we didn’t expect were the two blizzards during the week. The first would occur on our drive up. Not too bad everywhere except around the tunnel which always gets the worst of things. Our days in Leadville were beautiful and warm (50’s) giving us a lot of snowmelt. Then just as we got into the car for the drive home the big one hit. White out conditions and ice. By the time we hit Dillon I-70 had been closed and there was no where to go. We had lunch and shopped around for a good 4 hours. Then sat in our car for another 30 minutes waiting for 70 to open up. Better then being stopped for metering on the highway in your car for hours. But, looking forward to summer traffic once again.
