Race weekend had arrived! Sydney has run in this race for the past 2 years and was excited to return once again for another loop in City Park. We enjoy this race because its low key and easy in and out. The kids enjoy it too. Its a great atmosphere. We woke up and got down to the park. Sydney wore her iPod in the car and looked like she was all business preparing for the action to come. The forecast had called for rain but it wasn’t raining and the sun was out. Great day for a race! We got the kids registered and then they went off and visited the various booths that are setup to play games, win prizes, get snacks, face paints, and more. Finally, it was time to race.
Sydney raced in the 1/2 mile race again this year. They have a mile option but it requires some group registration and is targeted at schools mostly. These races are not timed. That’s cool but one of these days I want to get an official result. Sydney lined up in the middle of the pack and was off strong. She knew right where we were at cheering her on so we got some good smiles from her as she passed by. The 1/2 mile takes the kids out and around a cone and then back the same way. Takes them a few minutes.
Saw the lead boys coming back and then a distributed pack and Sydney was in there. She was running nice and smooth. Not looking like she was going to die or anything. Just comfortable. I was waiting near the start of the finish shoot and started yelling/cheering her on. I knew she had more speed so I got totally obnoxious this year and was telling her to win and beat those boys. I ran with the video camera along the outside and saw her to the finish line. I scooped her up and gave her a big hug. Great job, Sydney!
We take you now to the live play-by-play from both kid’s races!
I think she is ready to up it to a full mile race one of these days. She has the pacing down! Here is the slideshow from the race. Lots of good action shots in here frame by frame to see the big power stride!
