Time For School
Preschool was so last year. This year, Sydney is in kindergarten! That’s real school! Learning all kinds of new things. Kindergarteners have to wear uniforms to school. Sydney was very excited about this. She thought the clothes that Kim got her were beautiful. I recall my sister and I hating every second of uniform life by the time high school rolled around. But Sydney has a ways to go before the excitement wears off. The big change is that Sydney goes to school every day of the week now. I always hated getting up for school — finally I graduated and everything was well. Now I have kids and they are getting up for school. What was I thinking? It is my nightmare all over again. Anyway, we went to kindergarten orientation and they tried to freak us out about not being nervous that our kids were taking such a big step in life. Enough about me. I am excited to see her grow and she is excited for the new school year!

Turtle Races
As kids, we went to the lake each weekend. One of the usual activities was turtle hunting. This involved my Dad driving us in the fishing boat back in a channel very quietly. Then we would shut off the motor and watch for turtles to start sunning themselves. Once we spotted a good set and they were under our spell, my Dad would start up the fishing boat and we would cast our big 10’ pole with net on the end and literally ram the shore with the boat! Most of the time we ended up with a net full of turtles.
So on our summer visit to Indiana, we went back up to the lake and decided to catch a few turtles. We don’t have the old fishing boat so some catching from shore was the only solution. I had lost my touch and gave up. But some relatives that were more up to date in their turtle skills helped us out and we got two little guys!
With the Olympics starting that day, we decided to have a competition of our own. Turtle Races!
We setup a posh Olympic Village for the competitors so they had a place to hang.
Here is Reagan taking a photo with the big winner!
In the end, the turtles were released back into the wild to live freely or be caught again another day!

Life On The Lake
We made an extended stop at the lake while visiting Indiana this summer. I spent about all my childhood summer weekends there so it is fun to bring my own kids there to do some of the same stuff I did as a kid. First off — let’s get a boat ride in!
My Dad taught me to drive a boat at a young age — well, probably not this young — so let’s see how she does!
I guess there was some kind of modeling competition going on!
Maybe we should start with a smaller boat first? That’s more like it.

Um, Dad, there is a really cute kitty here at Grandma’s house…
She really needs a home…
You know how the story ends.

Meet My Cousin
This is Baby Madison. Last time Sydney met her she was much smaller. Now who has the bigger head, cuz?
Zoo Camper
Sydney’s final camp of the summer was at the Denver Zoo. She went for afternoons all week to learn about animals, make crafts, and do other activities. The bad news was that this was the hottest week of the whole summer so far. Each day was a 100 or more degrees. Not a good week to be outside. When Mom or I would pick her up, she was fried. On the way home, she usually ripped her shirt off and demanded McDonald’s with a big Sprite to cool off.
On the last day of camp, they had a show and Mom and Reagan got to go see the presentation. Lots of animals up close including a bird that had a unique trick to kill his lizard food. He would pick up this fake demo lizard and throw it at the ground over and over to kill it. Snap!
Everyday after camp, we would ask about the day and this is sort of the look we get. I mean we pay for this stuff…can’t parents hear about it?
