Another year has passed and we returned out our favorite local camping spot to hike, ride, and be outside.

Hey, Sydney, ready to go for a ride? Sure, that fits.

CJ came up and visited us. We took him to the secret location of Sydney Island to play in the river and cool off.

Check out the photos from Sydney’s camera! BTW, we found pictures of butts in the reel of photos but I have removed them from public display.

Permalink A Long Colorado Weekend

Nana and Papa Fuller came for their annual summer Colorado visit this past weekend. In normal fashion, we never let them stop moving. From Water World, to Animals, to Mount Evans, to Glenwood Springs, it was a whirlwind weekend.

We started the trip off with a hike around Heil Ranch. Sydney wanted to show Nana her new found wilderness skills from day camp.

Then it was time for my race, so my chief running partner didn’t wanna miss the action!

This is how you do it — cooling down at the hot springs.

Then we took everyone for a round of speed mini golf. At least that’s how the kids play. It looks more like hockey because the ball never stops rolling.

Ok, NASCAR Grandpa…let’s see what this coaster’s got!

Since coasters were not scary enough, how about a bucking bull ride? Whoa!

Glenwood Springs

Nope, that was easy too. Maybe a fast alpine zip line ride will do the trick!

Race #1 went so well, I thought let’s do another. Most of the fun runs are 2 miles in length so we set our sights on the Longmont Sunrise Stampede. Sydney actually did this race in a stroller years ago with Nana and Kim. However, this year she has to carry her own wait.

We got there early and registered. Dad & kid got consecutive numbers. Sydney was very excited by that. We used the “yucky” toilets, fueled up and then hit the infield for some stretching with the group.

We met up with our neighbors & Sydney’s BFF, Helene, who was also attempting her first do-it-yourself 2 mile race. However, Helene didn’t want me to take her picture so here is Sydney with Campbell, Helene’s brother, who was going to run too — all by himself!

At 8:30 the gun went off and we hit the road! At 8:32, Sydney said her legs hurt and she wanted a drink. This was going to be a long 2 miles.

Struggling with my motivational techniques, I let Sydney pick a flower which she named “Flowery” and then we decided that this flower wanted to win the race. Sydney would spin the flower and run it forward. It gave her the power to get it going and make it to the track for the final lap.

Then on the track, she bonked! I don’t want to run anymore!

But somehow — flower power? — we made it to the finish line!

Then Helene’s Dad crossed the finish line for the 10k race and everybody passed out!

Here is the graph — what did you expect? See there are some periods of running in there.

After the race, I told Sydney she could eat whatever you want after the race because that’s what racers do. So that’s 3 miles down for the year. 23 to go? Might be a long season.
