Permalink Grandma’s Kind of Ride

I always tell my Mom that she needs to go ATV’ing. But those in the know understand why not. One word - helmet. Anyway, today while Grandpa and I were off tearing up the track, Grandma took Sydney on a Grandma-style ATV ride.

I wasn’t going to post this picture because it sucks but then I realized why it sucks — nobody but me is looking at the camera. Geez.

Permalink Kinda Wicked Witch Ride

Not quite a broom. Not quite a witch. But we can pretend, right?

Permalink Smile, Then Get Down

Whenever Syd gets into something she shouldn’t, we usually have to run and get the camera. Then we tell her to smile. Then we yell at her to get down. Probably confusing for her.

So now that she is a full-fledged gymnast, we find her climbing all over the furniture.

Permalink Go Outside?

Sydney is starting to learn more and more words. “Hi Dada” is a favorite of her’s and mine. “Up” is also a good one — as in get up after changing her diaper. But now she is starting to learn activity words. Each night I try and walk the dogs. You can’t say walk around a dog without it running the door. But now when I say walk, Sydney runs to the door too. She also runs to the door when we say “Go Outside?”.

So much to do outside. Run up and down the driveway. See other kids. Push the (child’s) lawn mower. And take her puppy for a walk — err, ride.

You know when it is Sydney’s turn for a ride because she stands by her car and yells “more” — I can’t figure out a way to type it like she says it. Anyway, she gets in the car and then I push it as fast as I can run up and down the street. The dogs flank the sides of the car barking like crazy. The car has plastic wheels so you can hear us coming for miles. But louder than the wheels is Sydney’s laughter — not sure if it is the dogs, the speed, or what but it sure is a damn good time.

Permalink Gym Rat

Ok, enough with the death threats. I have a day job. I can’t sit around and blog about Sydney all the time!

Sydney is starting to really get into this gymnastics thing. Today, she was ready to go bright and early. Oddly, she didn’t poop when we got there — her diaper is always full at the start of class.

Lots of climbing on mats and ramps today. Syd is every proud of climbing this. She constantly makes noises as if she was lifting something terribly heavy during the climb.

We tried the rope swing today. 2 big boxes with a rope swing in between. Man, that is cool. You sit on the knot and swing to the other side.

This trampoline ramp was a hit also. You can run up it and bounce back down. Nobody wanted to take turns.

Permalink Let’s Go, Mary Lou

That is what Sydney is hearing me say every Thursday morning. For the last 2 weeks while Mom isn’t feeling well, I have been taking Sydney to gymnastics class. Really it is just a bunch of kids running around while the instructor tries to organize this chaos. The first time I took Sydney she cried most of the time. Class is at 9AM and that happens to be early for Syd.

This week Syd got into it a bit more. She likes climbing on things. She hung on the mini-bars to the point where I let go and she stayed on the bar. That surprised me! She likes the trampoline as well. The scariest part of the class is the teacher. She is a loud perky lady that Sydney wants nothing to do with.

Each week is getting better.

Permalink New Park

The new playground opened in the park across the highway. We stopped by today after lunch to test it out. Sydney always takes a few minutes to warm up but then she is on fire. Kim and I just sat on a park bench nearby and Sydney would start at the bottom and climb up to the top and then slide down the big twisting slide over and over and over. She had a blast! The park also has a 1 mile nature trail. It is great that they are building this type of recreational area so close to home.

Permalink The Secret Word is Butabutabuta

One of my favorite games to play with Sydney is to come up with some reaction to some specific action she does. Last night, Sydney had to say the secret word and I would throw her in the air. She kinda likes it — have a look!

Permalink Hanging With Dad

Mom isn’t feeling so well so I took Sydney out for the afternoon. First, we stopped for lunch. Syd had a cheese quesadilla — her favorite. Then we went to Walmart and picked up all the household items on our list from Mom. Half way through the store, Sydney got tired and fell asleep on my shoulder. Shopping with one arm free and holding a 20lb baby in the other arm is not easy. We then went to Home Depot and Sydney woke up while I was looking for some bolts. I put her down and turned my back for a second and she had bolts all over the floor. There are all these little drawers of shiny things that are so fun to drop on the floor I guess. After that, we stopped at McDonalds for a snack — a Happy Meal. Um. The toy was a girl on an ATV. How appropriate! Finally, the cell phone rang — it was Mom. “When are you coming back home?”, she asked. :)
