Television Zombie
It doesn’t take long. All humans eventually learn how to sit on the couch, eat food, and stare at the TV. Here we see the specie exhibiting the behavior at just over one year of age. Amazing.

Touch Your Nose
Mom plays “Touch Your” with Sydney…touch your eyes, touch your ears, touch your nose. Well, for some reason, touch your nose seems to mean stick your finger up your nose. Carole & Natalee, she did not learn this from her father!

License to Bookworm
Sydney loves books. And she is quite the speed reader. Her goal is to turn the pages in the book as fast as possible to get to the end. Duh, that is where all the good stuff happens anyway! Since all our books are getting boring, Mom decided to get her licensed.

Happy Birthday, Grandma Carole
I asked Grandma what she wanted for her birthday this year and she said she wanted another video of Sydney dancing. Hmmm. That is a free and easy gift I guess. So here you go, Grandma — more groovin’ to the Wiggles!

New Age Art
This morning we awoke to witness the great artist Sydney in the middle of one of her masterpieces. She does not use the typical oil or water paints, nope Sydney uses whatever she has at her disposal. In this instance, it was green pea poop out of the back of her diaper. She was painting her headboard, sheets, pillow, stuffies and even her own face with this paint. She was very proud of her paintings and was a little confused when Mommy wiped down the masterpeice.

My First Pillow
All of you faithful babycam watchers may have noticed that Syd now has her very own pillow. While Grandma Hakes was here she handmade Sydney her pillowcase, which even includes a silky border. Syd thinks this new pillow in her bed is the coolest thing ever. She used to cry for several minutes at nap and bedtime fighting off sleep. Now, we put her in bed, head on her pillow, all covered up, with a stuffy at each arm. She now just giggles and giggles when we place her in bed on her pillow. Bedtime is now fun, all crying has been replaced by the sound of Sydney discussing her day with her stuffies before falling asleep. Thanks Grams!

Thirsty, Anyone?
Hiking around the yard is tough work! So I had to get Sydney her very own kid-sized Camelbak. Now, she has water with her all the time. This may keep her out of the dog’s water bowl. She has a lot of fun when I take the tip off the hose and water sprays everywhere. If you come nearby, she will offer you a drink — even if you are dog. How nice.

Stop Corrupting My Child
Grandma Hakes is visiting right now while Mom is recovering from her dental surgery. I was skeptical of leaving Sydney alone with Grandma because I know how these Indiana-based Grandmas work. So today, I have proof — Grandma has given her a purse and they are out walking around the mall shopping! Stop the insanity!

Plastic Wheels Are For Babies
I am getting tired of all these kid’s toys with plastic wheels. Who wants that crap? We need rubber! So when it was finally time to get a wagon, Dad went on the lookout for the biggest badest wagon we could find. And we found the All-Terrain Wagon — or ATW. :) Smooth ride and offroad capable!

Now, if I could just find somebody to pull this child around all day long we would be all set.

Howdy Neighbor
Sydney had her pool setup in the front yard last night. Hence, she only has a swimming diaper on here. Our next door neighbor, Kaitlyn, is starting to want to play with Sydney. She will ask her Mom if she can go and see Sydney. Here I caught them up on the front steps discussing strategies on parental manipulation.

A New Friend
Sydney’s new friend was born last night. Baby Burke (because they haven’t given out the name yet) arrived at 6:41 EDT and weighed about 7 pounds. Drop by and say hi to the new baby!

Cool Down
The weather is finally getting back to normal around here which means things are heating up. We had planned to go for a hike today but the dogs didn’t even want to stay outside. So for a big family cooldown, we went over to Union Reservoir behind our house to cool off.
Sydney loves to hang out in the water in her raft. The only thing she liked more was walking along the beach and picking up sticks.

Here are both dogs swimming away from us back to the beach. They like swimming — but only for a little while.
